Darlene, I think the dads did that just to cause confusion generations later. One of my ancestors was Sir Thomas Hoo. By his first wife he had a son named Thomas, this Thomas, who was also knighted, later became Lord Hoo of Hoo and Hastings, and inherited the "farm". Sir Thomas then had another son by his second wife, whom he also named Thomas, who was also knighted, thus becoming Sir Thomas Hoo( my ancestor), who got the name, but none of lands.
