Abercrombie Family Genealogy Forum

In reviewing your recent posting and contrary to your apparent intent, your comments are actually somewhat supportive to the existence of a Colvill Abercrombie, Sr. (1) The fact John Abercrombie shows no known/documented daughters is meaningless. Since the beginning of time, families have consisted of ONLY sons or ONLY daughters. I really don't get your point? (2) Family naming patterns during this period cannot be easily dismissed. In fact, a large portion of early Abercrombie lineage was developed using known family naming patterns. I am a little confused as to why you would suggest Colvill Dial would be a named son before the naming of a son for the PATERNAL Dial grandfather? FACT...(1) Martin Dial married Chrystie Abercrombie, a niece of Chrystie Abercrombie. The elder Chrystie Abercrombie was likely the sister of James, John, Isaac and Colvill, Sr. (2) The fact remains Martin Dial and Chrystie Abercrombie named their second son...COLVILL DIAL! The established naming of a second son after the maternal grandfather is well documented. To be continued...
