Thanks for the information. You are absolutely right. Re the burials, that is confirmed in my transcripts of the cemetery and the town burial records.

I tell myself that when one transcribes all information from nine censuses, one will misread names. I still can't figure how I misconstrued "Samuel" for "James". I did have a tiny note that "James E. in cemetery may be Samuel since he is listed as ~ Mattie E." Anyway, we go it right now.

I don't have information that Mattie remarried in Patten. If she did, please let me know (also, her husband's name).

Did I mention that they were married Nov 12 1882 at Benedicta? Most RC families didn't bother "way back then", and just used a local JP. (No one was so lax as to use a Protestant minister.) I'm assuming that James was Irish and the Michauds, French (DUH!). The Michauds must have been very traditional to marry their child at Benedicta. Then again, either James' family or some Michauds might have lived there. (They were pretty ubiquitous people, huh?) Although I included Stacyville in "my towns", I just couldn't stretch to include Island Falls, Sherman, Benedicta and Monarda. It would have been ideal, but not at my age/dotage.

Of course the Church through much of the 19C was agitated over how its flimsy institutional presence in northern and eastern Maine was promoting assimilation of the sheep.

I'd love to have some of your insights about the Michauds. They and the Shorettes seem to be the "Key" FR families in the area. I have a couple of dozen Michauds who passed through the town (missing a census), but little further information.

Anyhoooo, thanks for everything. Excuse my laziness, and if I was misleading. have a fine year.
