John Archer, b. 26 MAR 1752, Worthen, Salop, ENG, d. 26 JAN 1830, Cherryfield, ME, m. 3 NOV 1778, Machias, ME, Elizabeth Tupper, b. 3 APR 1758, Lebanon, CT, d. 26 MAY 1830, Jonesboro, ME. John Archer deserted from service in the British Army 1775-78 and served in the colonial forces 1778-81; brick mason, surveyor, and teacher; was briefly at Machias, where he was a member of the military garrison, then went to Newburyport, MA; eventually returned to Maine and lived at Columbia [1789-1800]; finally settled at Cherryfield c1810 ["Early Pleasant River Families," pp. 26-27]. John Archer was the son of Henry Archer, b. 28 NOV 1718, ENG, and Mary Wigley, b. 6 SEP 1726, Cardington, ENG. Children:
