I'm trying to connect William Armstrong, Jr (1800 Greenville census) of Greenville County, SC to the right Armstrong family. My interest is in the McAfee family. Margaret, daughter of Robert McAfee and Anne Green (sister of Isaac Green, early settler of Greenville), married William Armstrong in Greenville about 1793. Robert McAfee, sons Green and Abraham, and daughter and son-in-law William Armstrong, relocated to Morgan Co/Jasper Co Georgia about 1808. William and Margaret served as guardians of Green McAfee's young children after Green died in 1813. Green was Margaret's brother. Robert McAfee sold William Armstrong his property in 1818, and presumably lived with Margaret and William until his death before 1820. Margaret and William died in Crawford County, Georgia. They had a large family.
The McAfees began in the King's Creek, Tryon Co, NC area along the NC/SC border, where there were also Armstrong families. The McAfees moved to the Greenville area between 1780-1785, perhaps because of internal family issues around the revolution, as the Greens of Tryon Co. were strong Torys. The McAfees, and eventually the Greens fought with the patriots. Did the Atmstrongs move with them or are these Greenville Armstrongs a different set?
There were several Armstrongs in Greenville, including an older William Armstrong. There are also Armstrong family members associated with the McAfee brothers of Kentucky. Relationships between the McAfees of the NC/SC area and the Kentucky area are currently unknown.
Any clues with be appreciated.
