I simply cannot find out anything about my gg grandmother's family. Her name was Elizabeth Ashby, born about 1799/1800 in North Carolina. By 1823, she was in Jefferson Co., Alabama, as she witnessed the will of her future father-in-law, Duncan Johnson/ston. A few months after that, she married my gg grandfather, Randolph Johnson, in July of 1823. The only other Ashby I have found there in Jefferson Co. was a Harriet Ashby, who married Lewis Howton in 1836, so Harriet could possibly have been Elizabeth's younger sister, but I haven't been able to determine that, either. Now, I know that my Johnson's were in Tennessee in 1800, so it's possible that they met in Tennessee, rather than Alabama, but I just don't know. It seems like all the Ashby's I hear about went from the Carolinas or from Virginia to Kentucky, and I never hear about anybody who went to Alabama. Since Lincoln Co., TN is just north of Jefferson Co., perhaps she was related to those Ashby's. Any ideas from anybody?
