William Ashby/Anne Guy, Sackets Harbor, NY

William Ashby and his wife Anne Guy, along with their daughter, Sarah, b. 1785, Battle, Sussex, England, and her husb, Henry Metcalf, sailed to U.S. on the Jupiter in 1805. The ship struck an iceberg and wrecked off the coast of Newfoundland. The survivors, including the above, arrived in Marblehead, MA and eventually settled in Sackets Harbor, NY. I expect William Ashby was born in Sussex, ENG. I am told he was something of a lay preacher and had published a number of religious tracts there. I have been informed he was very active in the abolition movement here in the US along with David Merritt and certain members of the Spencer family. Henry Metcalf is my direct ancestor. Any information on this line is most appreciated.
