Joseph Baldwin is listed in "Land of Wilkes" by Johnson J. Hayes as a Justice of the Peace in 1824. Feb 11, 1811, he bought a 170 acres from brother Isaac( 20 acres of this was along the Potato Creek).

"Will Book A, Page *"---Lawrence County, Indiana witnesses: Joseph Maxwell and Theophilus Baldwin. Deed, dated: August 13, 1830, Figure #29, sale of land in Section #5, which was originally purchased by William Baldwin in 1819, and is now sold by Elisha Baldwin, his natural mother, Jane and wife Fathy. The deed states that they are of the County of Marion and State of Missouri. Possibly went to Missouri in 1830."

The Landreths were close neighbors of the Baldwins and Maxwells in Ashe County, North Carolina, living in Turkey Knob vacinity, located between Potato Creek and Elk Creek. They came on up the Wilderness Road along with many other residents of the New River Valley, to find new land in Lawrence County, Indiana.

Various stories stated by Bhale, 7904@aol.com(Becky Hale). Elisha is buried on Fletcher's Ridge in Buchanan County, another story says he is buried on Baldwin Mountain in Buchanan County(these are basically a ridge apart).
