Not much on this family. Let's start with the 1850 census for Township 9, Range 10, Jersey County, Illinois, script p. 127, stamped p. 64, lines 24 - 29 (enumerated 11 Sep 1850):
William Ball, age 33, farmer, b. NC
Sarah, age 34, b. IL
Leander, age 10, b. IL
Calvin, age 8, b. IL
John, age 2, b. IL
William, age 7/12, b. IL
Then to the 1860 census for Division 35, Jackson Co., MO, script p. 248, lines 38 - 40 (enumerated 24 Aug 1860):
Leander Ball, age 19, laborer, b. IL
Nancy J., age 15, b. MO
Melvina, age 1/12, b. MO
And then the 1860 census for Division 35, Jackson Co., MO, script p. 237 (enumerated 18 Aug 1860):
Sarah Ball, age 39, b. IL
Calvin, age 16, laborer, b. IL
John, age 14, b. IL
William, age 13, b. IL
Josiah, age 10, b. IL
Nicholas, age 5, b. MO
Melis C., age 6, b. MO (could be Melia or Melie)
Columbus, age 4, b. MO
There are other Ball families in Jackson Co. MO in 1860, but come from VA and KY amd MD. there are no Ball families in Cass Co. MO in 1860.
In Township 47, Range 30, Jackson Co. MO in 1870, script p. 115 (stamped p. 131) (enumerated on 25 July 1870):
William Ball, age 19, farmer, b. IL
Sarah Ball, age 50, b. NC
Jos., age 17, b. MO
Nicholas, age 15, b. MO
Columbus, age 12, b. MO
There are a total of 18 Ball individuals in Jackson Co. in 1870 and 16 Ball individuals in Cass Co. in 1870, but none that look like Leander or his family.
