I have been seaching for the ancestors of Benjamin Bassett for a number of years without success. He was christened at St Thomas a Beckett,Cliffe,Lewes in 1807 and his parents names were Henery Bassett and Ann.
Although it has been suggested that a Henry and Ann living in nearby Chailey in 1841 were Benjamin's parents the fact that this Ann was not even a teenager when he was born in 1807 makes this impossible.
There IS the distinct possibility that Henry was a hawker or huckster as Benjamin 1807 and Benjamin 1837 were and in that case he and Ann may have travelled to Lewes on the regular pedlar routes from elsewhere and could have possibly died in a workhouse.
I am posting her in the hope that another researcher may know of a Henry Bassett who married an Ann and who could have had children in the early years of the 19th century.
