Tried some census searching on this family and it could be that SAMUEL S. BATCHELDER's father was from Quebec and Stanstead County. I am researching the BACHELDER families of Stanstead (my 3 great grandmother was HANNAH (BATCHELDER) SLEEPER (she was about the only one in this family who used BATCHELDER instead of BACHELDER. If you go to the Stanstead Rootsweb board you will find a lot on the BACHELDER's of Stanstead County. I have no clue who the father of SAMUEL S. BATCHELDER would be. I would suggest you do some posting on both the Stanstead and Eastern townships boards with the census data below. Listing all of it to be helpful to other researchers so they won't have to be redundant with this research. You might try posting to Vermont boards as well. BATCHELDER/BACHELDERs settled all over Vermont after emigrating from Hampton, Rockingham County, NH where REV. STEPHEN BACHILDER who all American descendants came from. He is credited with founding the town. It looks like EDITH J. wife of WILLARD was b. Nebraska with Vermont roots. I would also do a post on the Orleans County Vermont board as that is right over the border with Stanstead. Good luck. Let me know if you ever find SAMUEL's father.
