New Hampshire Union Leader (Manchester, NH) - November 13, 2004 Laroy W. Batchelder NOTTINGHAM -- Laroy W. Batchelder, 86, of Case Road, died Nov. 12, 2004, at home. Born June 26, 1918, in Nottingham, he was the son of Perley B. and Alice (Titcomb) Batchelder. A lifelong Nottingham resident, he graduated from Dover High School in 1936. For many years, he was a member of the Nottingham Volunteer Fire Department, where he was fire chief for 22 years. He was a member of the U.S. Trotter Association. He owned and trained horses and loved sulky racing. He was a carpenter who built homes. For five years, he worked for O. R. Gooch & Son building log homes. Mr. Batchelder enjoyed hunting, ice fishing and spending time at his camp with his friends in Maine. He also liked to go to Nottingham Elementary School to speak to students about Nottingham and his school days in the 1920s. He was a member of Pawtuckaway Grange and the Nottingham Historical Society. The family includes his wife of 67 years, Leona (Phalen) Batchelder of Nottingham; two sons, Ronald L. Batchelder and Chester G. Batchelder, both of Nottingham; four granddaughters; and nine great-grandchildren. SERVICES: Calling hours are Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. at Kent & Pelczar Funeral Home, 77 Exeter St., Newmarket. The funeral is Monday at 10 a.m. from the funeral home, with the Rev. Gary Reiff officiating. After cremation, a private burial service will be held in South Side Cemetery, Nottingham. Family flowers only. Memorial donations may be made to the charity of one's choice.
