Connie,
I was so surprised to receive your message. I have been searching for many years with little to no results. My mother was Helen Boyd Barrentine, born September 18, 1920, in (what was then called Turkey Village) somewhere near Greenwood, MS. We are Caucasian.
The only thing I know is that my Dad was 38 when I was born (1940) so I figured he must have been born in 1902 or 1903. I have little to no information about him. I thought he was dead most of my life. I did not find out until I was 50 that he may have been alive all those years. My mother had already died so I could not ask her about it. I believe they were married somewhere in Copiah County and I know they were divorced in LeFlore County around 1941 or 42. As I said it was a bitter situation for my mother and she told me he died when I was a baby but her sister told me in 1990 that it was not true. That's when I contacted the military because I had his service number but they were really no help. She also told me that my Dad was from Hazelhurst.
My full name is Annie Pearl Beck and I was born May 11, 1940 in Greenwood. Alford is my married name and I shortened my first name to Anne while I was still in high school. I got teased so much about my name. :-)
Any information you may have would be greatly appreciated.
You are the closest I have come to maybe finding some real information. I would love to know if I have brothers or sisters or any Beck family left. I knew nothing about his siblings or his father. I knew his mother's name because I was named for my two grandmothers.
