EVANSVILLE? Lester Herbert Bowen, 88, of Evansville, died Wednesday, May 10, 2006, at the Evansville Manor Nursing Home after a short illness. He was born on Sept. 17, 1917, on the family farm on Tolles Road, Evansville, WI, son of Albert Victor and Stella (Severson) Bowen. He attended the Forest Academy Rural Grade School and Evansville High School. On Feb. 18, 1945, he married Pearl Alice Bromley from Reedsburg, WI, in Madison. He continued to operate the family farm for many years and was joined by his son, Daryl Bowen, in 1976 in the farming operation when Daryl purchased the farm. He was employed by Varco Pruden for 17 years from 1966 until 1983. Lester has been an active member of the local Seventh-day Adventist Church, holding several offices since 1932. Lester is survived by Pearl, his wife of 61 years; 2 sons, Robert Bowen (Annice) of Arrington, TN, and Daryl (Gloria) of Cambridge, WI; a daughter, Elaine (Tom) Steffen of Cashmere, WA; a foster son, Melvin (Mary) Sheire of Milwaukee; 8 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; a sister, Ruth Lohse of Milton, WI; and a brother, James (Virginia) Bowen of Evansville. He was preceded in death by his parents; 2 brothers, Roy and Hugh; and 4 sisters: Alice Bowen, Beth Steininger, Dorothy Kruger and Ethel Wegner. A memorial service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, May 13, 2006, at the Evansville Seventh-day Adventist Church , 453 W. Main St., Evansville, WI, with Pastor Abraham Swamidass officiating. A visitation will be held from 1:30 until 2:30 p.m. prior to services at the CHURCH. The family is being assisted by Ward Funeral Home , (608) 882-4410.
