I am looking for information on a Mr. Bristow who married Mahala Chism/Chisolm about 1835 in Kentucky and migrated to Indiana about 1844. Mr. Bristow/Bristo and Mahala Chism/Chisolm had at least five children; Alphonzo (abt. 1835 KY), John (abt. 1840 KY), William (abt. 1843 KY), Martha A. (abt. 1844 IN), and Charles Westley (abt. 1845 IN).

Mahala married a second time to William Herndon on 3 August 1846 in Meade Co., KY. They can be found in the 1850 census as follows;

1 October 1850
Herrington,       William              55       Farmer 250       VA
"              Mahala              38                     KY
"              Alphonzo       15                     KY
"              John              10                     KY
"              William              7                     KY
"              Martha              6                     IN
"              Wesley              4                     IN
"              Rhoda              1                     KY
Note: Although all issue are enumerated with the last name "Herrington", more than likely, all but the last child, Rhoda, were children by Mahala's first marriage to Mr. Bristo/Bristow
(1850 U.S. Federal Census, Kentucky Dist., Meade Co., KY, Page 228, Dwelling No. 791, Family No. 793, Line No. 26, Ancestry.com Image No. 117)

The Bristow children then migrated with their mother and stepfather from Kentucky through Missouri and, finally, settled in Quincy, Adams Co., IL.

In 1860, the family was enumerated in Hannibal Co., MO, as follows;

22 August 1860
Hernden,       William              61       Corn Lab       VA
"              Mahala              47               KY
"              William              30       Corn Lab       KY
Bristo,              Martha A.       18               KY
"              Charles W.       16       Corn Lab       KY
Herndon,       Mary C.              8               KY
"              Jacob              6               KY
"              Isabell              4               KY
Thomas,              Sarah              30               IN
"              Harriet              6/12               MO
(1860 U.S. Federal Census, 2 Ward Hannibal City, Hannibal P.O., Marion Co., MO, Page 792, Dwelling No. 1036, Family No. 1116, Ancestry.com Image No. 21)

I am trying to track down the Bristow children. I have found a few marriage records in the Adams Co., IL, archives. I'm not sure if these are the children of Mr. Bristow and Mahala but they might be;

John A. Bristow married Minerva Pruiett on 6 April 1868 in Adams Co., IL. William Bristow married Nancy Miles on 24 February 1865 (may be 23 March 1865) in Adams Co., IL. Martha Bristow married Asa T. Edwards on 10 November 1863 in Adams Co., IL. Charles Westley Bristow married Mary A. Darnell on 24 June 1865 in Adams Co., IL.

I found Charles and Mary living in LaMoine Twp., McDonough Co., IL, on 15 June 1880 as follows;

Bristow,       Charles W.       36       Farmer       IN KY KY
"        Mary              35              IL VA KY
"        Alonzo              12              IL IN IL
"        Lola              8              IL IN IL
(1880 U.S. Federal Census, Dist. 162, La Moine Twp., McDonough, IL, Page 428 Dwelling No. 152, FAmily No. 158, Ancestry.com Image No. 17 of 27)

I believe "Alonzo" is enumerated in 1930 below with his father, Charles, living with him;

3 April 1930
Bristow,Francis A., age63m Foreman Logging Camp       IL IN IL
"       Minnie O.              52              KS US OH
Bristow,       Charles W.       85              IN US KY
Note: Francis & Minnie were married 37 years. At the time of their marriage, Francis was 26 and Minnie O. was 15.
(1930 U.S. Federal Census, Dist. 16, Prect. 13, Eureka City, Humboldt Co., CA, Dwelling No. 47, Family No. 62, Ancestry.com Images 4 & 5 of 10)

I would like to correspond with anyone having information on any of these people.
