BLUFFTON -- Brian G. Brockway, 70, of Bluffton died Wednesday, Dec. 31, at his home. He had pancreatic cancer.

He grew up in Grand Rapids, Mich., and graduated from Catholic Central High School in 1951. He served in the Army and was stationed in Okinawa, Japan, during the Korean War. After his military service, he graduated from Northwestern University in Evanston, Ill., and went on to complete his juris doctorate and master of laws degrees at Georgetown University.

Mr. Brockway was a retired dean and distinguished professor at Lehigh University in Pennsylvania. He also was a visiting professor at the University of Detroit and the University of Dayton. He received many teaching awards, including the Student Body Outstanding Teaching Award, the Senior Lindback Teaching Award and the Lehigh Alumni award. At different times, he also was chairman of two departments at Lehigh, dean of the College of Business and Economics for eight years and a university distinguished professor of law for 15 years. He served as dean of the law school at the University of Detroit from 1969-71.

He was listed in Who's Who in America in 1971 and Who's Who in American Law in 1977. He also wrote three books and co-authored an article on business law during his tenure at Lehigh.

He enjoyed computer photo editing, literature and discussing current events. He worked with various service organizations and recently volunteered with a food distribution program in Bluffton.

Survivors include his wife of 20 years, Mary McShane Brockway; three children from his first marriage, Matthew, Marie and Gregory Brockway; seven children from his wife's first marriage; two brothers; and 16 grandchildren.

Memorial services will be held at 1 p.m. Jan. 24 in the Packer Memorial Church on the campus of Lehigh University in Bethlehem, Pa. A reception will follow the service, from 2 to 4 p.m., at the university center.

Memorials may be sent to the Palmetto Hospice, P.O. Box 1857, Bluffton, SC 29910.

Sauls Funeral Home in Bluffton is in charge of arrangements.
