Black Genealogy Volume 8 contains “How Slaves Got Their Names” as well as tombstone inscriptions from Franklin, Patterson, Centerville, and Jeanerette. BROUSSARD, Joseph Leon (Alexandre & Melite Clarisse LEBLANC) b. 3 April 1833 (SM Ch.: v.8, #689). ====================================================== Harrison, During my search for my Great,Great,Great Grandmother Odile Prince I have come upon much of the information that you have sent me. However, here is the connection that I have to have: Odile married Leon Joseph Broussard (His name is either I. Joseph or just Joseph on U.S. census records) They had two children. One was Oscard Broussard, my great, great grandfather. On all records that I have with this information Odile is listed as White. I finally found 1 white Odile Prince. Her parents are listed as Francois Prince and Marcelite Broussard. I found Marcelite's parents to be Raphael Broussard and Modest Leblanc. I traced Raphael's lineage to Alexandre, brother of Joseph dit Beasoleil. All other "trees" had this lineage leading to Joseph himself because of similarities in names of husbands and wives. It seems everyone has at least one son named Joseph Gregoire, etc! I have always thought that my maw maw was mulato. She is light skinned, but her features are not at all caucasian. Please visit my family tree at Genealogy.com. It is named Laura W. Nelson (Nee Weill) Family Tree. My grandmother is Agnes B. Weill (Nee Broussard). I do appreciate all your help!
