Hello,

In my notes I have a Jesse P. Bruton born in Texas around 1857. He is listed in the 1860 U.S. Census in Nacogdoches County, TX, Beat 9, Roll M653 1301, page 184:

Joseph Bruton age 32 Farmer 3,500 5,900 b. Tenn
Mary E., age 27, house keeper, Tenn
Mary E., age 10, b. Tenn, at school
Martha P., age 8, b. Tenn, at school
Joella, age 5, b. Texas, at school
Jesse P., age 3, b. Texas

This seems to indicate that the family moved to Texas sometime between around 1852 and 1855, based on the birthplaces of the children.

Their neighbors have Tennessee connections too. On one said are William and Jane Weaver, both born in Tennessee, their oldest child Joseph, age 5, was born in Texas. So this family moved to Texas too from Tennessee by 1855.

On the other side was Ira and Elsey Parker, both born in Tennessee, their oldest child is William age 10, born in Texas, so they were there by about 1850.

And next to them was Marion Prince, b. TX, and his wife Susan J., born in Tennessee. Their children were born in Texas.

It seems possible that a group of people who knew each other in Tennessee moved together or in stages to Texas. They may also be related.

Hope this is of some help!

Regards,

Brian Nilsson
