Thanks, Togin, for the valuable info--this does answer quite a few questions about the marriage. I don't have all my notes here at this time, but I have found Olive mentioned only two times in census records so far: as a young child in the James Lyle (misspelled Lisle) household in 1860 in Wapello Co. (Martha and James were married 23 Nov 1856 in Wapello Co.), and as a 15-year-old in The Dalles, Wasco, OR, in 1870. She traveled with the Lyles and the other members of Martha's family (Elam Snipes) to WA Territory in 1863. The Lyles settled in Klickitat County, WA, where Lyle, WA, was named for James, and where Martha died 19 Aug 1887. Interestingly, at the time of the census, Olive G. Lyle (as she was listed), was living with her uncle and aunt, Ben E. and Mary A. Snipes, across the river from Lyle, in The Dalles. I would like to find out what became of her, but in my small amt. of searching so far, have not seen her in mortality records or marriage records. I plan to keep looking and will let you know if I find something. (I believe she wasn't listed under Cassell or Lyle in 1880 census.) A couple of other questions--I had wondered what the "H" stood for in Martha's name. Do you have a record of it being Harriet? Whenever I have seen it, H. has always been the middle initial. Also, assume there must be some record of Jonathan and Martha's divorce in Wapello County? When did Jonathan move out of Iowa and/or remarry? Thanks again for helping me out!
