John Vernon Castle
JOHN VERNON CASTLE Passed away at St. Luke's Hospital on December 23, 2004. J.C., as he was commonly known, is survived by his beloved children, Linda Forster, Donna Holmes, John Jr., Robert and Mike. John's grandchildren, Stephanie and Mike Holmes, Paul and Shannon Forster and Amanda Castle, will miss him dearly. His nieces and nephews include Jack and Jeff, sons of his late brother Jim, and Roxanne, Michael, Brad and Karen, children of Richard Castle living in Washington. His wife, Susan, also survives John. John is one of three brothers born to the late Ruth Rink from Ohio and Vernon Castle from South Dakota. They were born in Seattle and raised in Sultan, Washington. John migrated to San Francisco in the early '60s to work here and eventually bought the scaffold company where he worked. He turned Pacific Scaffold into a major business that he was most proud of in the 38 years he had it. He went to Sultan High School before he joined the Air Force and served at Reese A.F. Base in Lubbock, Texas. John loved sports and played golf every chance he could, also managed to play on several golf courses in England and Scotland on a tour. He was a lifetime member of the Godfathers Club and donated to the Chronicle's Season of Sharing and the Police Athletic League. Friends are invited to a farewell service at Duggan's Serra Mortuary in Daly City on Thursday, January 6, 2005, at 10:30 a.m. His ashes will be taken to Washington state to be placed close to his mother in Lynnwood, Washington.
