In ca 1760, Jacob Castle made a land entry near the Great Falls of the New River in SW Virginia near today's Floyd County, Virginia. There are many references to him as a hunter. Living in that same area two decades later was a family named Spurlock. One son George went to the Kanawha/Cabell area of Virginia, now West Virginia, then moved across the Ohio River to Lawrence County, Ohio ca 1820. There his daughter Malinda married 18 Jan 1831 George Cassell. These Spurlock families moved to Indiana and then to Knox County, Illinois in the late 1830s. There James Spurlock, son of George, married 8 Oct 1845 Mary (Newell) Castle,a widow. Soon after, almost all the Spurlocks, including elderly George and his wife Zilpha Garrett, moved to the Wapello County area of Iowa. James Spurlock, a ME minister, died there in the 1860s and Mary Spurlock then moved her family to NE Kansas. A brother of James, Cyrus, also a ME minister was born in Va, lived in Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Iowa, Kansas and died in Colorado ! I post this because of see no mention on this board of the Cassell/Castle/Spurlock connectiom. Reuben Castle was in Knox County, Illinois in 1834 and George W.Cassell married in 1871 Cora Perdue. Their daughter Hulda Ann married a Spurlock. Spurlock deeds in Knox County mention a Perdue family. These latter two items are on this board. - Ken Notify Administrator about this message?
