I had a 3rd term I'd like to ask clarification on, but I'm not able to edit my original post to add it there, so sorry about this 2nd posting.

The other term I would ask for clarification on is 'furlough'. I'm unclear on what this indicates. My same ancestor I mentioned in my original post appears on a Hospital Muster Roll as being admitted to hospital on May 26, 1864. Further down the card, it lists him as "furloughed 30 days, June 21, 1864.

Would I be correct in thinking that a furlough in the above case would mean that he was admitted to the hospital on May 26, 1864, and discharged on June 21, 1864 with the provision that he be placed on sick leave for 30 days, keeping him off the active battle status for that time period?

Again, thanks in advance for clearing this up for me.
