George, I found the information I have on our family tree. My grandfather Benjamin Luke was born in Bear Cove in NS on 3-18-1898 and died in Mystic, CT 7-22-1962. His father was George Comeau born in 1848 and died 4-23-1923 in Meteghan, NS and Benjamin's mother was Helen Deschamps. George Comeau's father was Luc Comeau born 2-3-1815 and was married to Elizabeth Babin (daughter of Luc Babin). Luc's father was Marin Comeau and he was married to Marie Madeleine Maillet (sp?) no dates. Marin's father was Antoine Comeau and was married to Madeleine Dugas, I have Antoine's death as 1797. Antoine's father was Joseph Comeau born 1-30-1740 and was married to Maguerite Johnson (one of the few English names on the pedigree and she was the daughter of William Billy Johnson). Joseph's father was Francois Comeau born 1701 and was married to Marie Madeleine L'Or born 12-24-1705 both in Port Royal, NS and married 2-25-1726. Francois' father was Pierre Comeau, JR "Des Loup-Marin" (I don't know what that means and I also have it listed elsewhere as Pierre II) and has a birthdate of 1658 at Port Royal. He was married to Jeanne Bourgeois who was the daughter of Jacques (1st surgeon in Acadia) and Jeanne Trahan. Pierre's father was Pierre Comeau II (born 1606 near Dijon, France and again I have it listed elsewhere as just Pierre Comeau) and was married to Rose Bayol of Dijon. Pierre's father was Jean Comeau IV and was married to Marguerite Ocquidem (sp?). His father was Jean Comeau II (how it went from the II to the IV I don't know but that's how it's listed on the pedigree.) Jean was married to Catherine Collard in 1550. His father was Claude Comeau (again I don't know where Jean Sr. went on this family tree) and he was married to Jeanne deGissey. Claude's father was listed as Guy Comeau and that's as far back as I have. I have a letter from a Prof. J. Alphonse Deveau to Jack Murphy (I don't know who these people are) but it was sent to my Uncle Donald who was doing the Comeau family genealogy. The letter said that he couldn't link anything to George Comeau but knew he was from Bear Cove. The letter was written in 1988. I am having trouble reading parts of it. I don't know if this helps or not.
On my grandmother's side, her name was Catherine R. LeBlanc born 11-25-1894 and died 9-23-1962. Her father was Edmond LeBlanc and he was married to Jessie Lovett. Edmond's father was Cellestin LeBlanc and he was married to Chantalay (Cargot) Billiveau. No dates on that. And that's as far back as I have on that also.
I hope this helps. Do you see any correlation with your research here? My father was Benjamin Luke Comeau, JR and my brother is the III and nephew the IV. I have 4 nephews that will hopefully be able to carry the Comeau name forward for this line.
