Mr & Mrs. Conklin appear in a diary I am researching in 1888-89. I do not have their first names, and I know that they have a son. They owned Florence Island at this time in the 1,000 Islands, St. Lawrence River, NY. A historical newspaper article from the Thousand Island Sun, written March 2, 1939 (reprinted May 23, 2001) stated that "Florence Island was purchased by an Oswego county clerk for $100.00". The article also stated that "Friendly Island was originally purchased by a Mr. Conklin of Oswego. It was later the summer home of E.W. Dewey."
The author of this diary is May Dewey, on Friendly Island and the Conklins do come over and socialize from Florence Island. I have looked for Mr. Conklin in the 1880 census in Oswego county and have had no luck.
The Conklins on Florence Island do have some summer visitors from Brooklyn. Whether or not they lived in Brooklyn around 1888, I can not determine that. There are many Conklins living in Brooklyn at this time. It has been very difficult to track down these Conklins!
