Gaile
Thomas W. Pope was married to Elizabeth Jane McKee in 1834 in Garrard County Kentucky. He and Elizabeth had 11 known children. My gr Grandfather Samuel Finley Pope was born in 1848 in Laurel County Kentucky.
It is true that Thomas W. Pope and Mary Correll do not show up on the IL. list of marriages on the internet. Believe that not all of the marriages for Ford County have been turned over to the state of IL. I found the information re: their marriage in the estate settlement of Thomas W. Pope in 1880. Mary was the administrator of his estate. Since I knew he had married her I went to the court house in Paxton IL and found the info on their marriage. The info is also available on film #0545720 at the Family History Library in Salt Lake. You can order the film out at any Family History Center.
Elizabeth Jane McKee Pope died in 1874 and Thomas W. Pope and Mary Correll married in 1876.
Thomas Pope and Elizabeth McKee came to IL in 1856. They farmed somewhere south of Piper City. There is a Popes Grove that shows up on old maps that pinpoints the location of their farm. Sometime in the 1870's Thomas and Elizabeth moved into town. Thomas Pope was a founder of the Presbyterian Church and the Masonic Lodge in Piper City. Thomas and 2 of his sons were involved in the forming of Piper City, originally called Brenton.
In 1882 the entire family removed to North Dakota where they homesteaded.
I will continue looking for the exact date of Thomas and Mary's wedding and send the data ASAP.
Pat
