This coming October, my 85-year old dad and I are planning a long clockwise driving trip from Chicago to 1) visit Harper's Ferry and Civil War battlefields of MD and VA, 2) look up some Craine/Crain/Crane (his maternal line) sites in Virginia, especially near Danville (and maybe KY) and 3) visit the Civil War battlefields at which my father's paternal grandfather, Deming Moon (my g-grandfather) fought in Mississippi and Tennessee (in reverse chronological order, but order of trip Iuka, Corinth, Shiloh, Ft. Donelson). Would love to know of your Virginia Craine/Crain/Crane contacts and how we can best get the Crane story...particularly the James, Thomas, Tarleton line: 1. James Craine b. circa 1720 in Virginia, at least three children: John, Thomas, Aaron. d. 1793 in Pittsylvania County, VA 2. Thomas Crain, b. 1754 in King William County, VA. Enlisted in 7th Virginia Regiment in 1778 (while visiting brother Aaron at Valley Forge; Aaron is the Crain/Veatch marriage discussed in this forum). Thomas married twice. First to ____ Lee (perhaps Theodosia Lee) and they had five children between 1783 and 1796. Second to Polly ____ (perhaps Polly King) and they had three children after 1817. Moved to Mercer County, KY approximately 1810. d. circa 1839 in Mercer County, KY. From what I have, Thomas's children Tarlton, Thomas, and perhaps William all moved to Marion County, MO. 3. Tarlton (sometimes Tarleton) Lee Crain, later Crane, b. 1783 in Virginia, m. 1811 to Mary Elizabeth "Polly" Beadle (1796-1844), d. 1849 in Marion County, MO. Tarlton and Polly move from KY to Philadelphia, MO in 1838. And OF COURSE any generations earlier than James! Thanks VERY MUCH for any and all assistance.
