Greetings from Houston, Betty ~ I notice you have many Crosby postings so thought I would respond to this one. Why? Because I have a Crosby heritage and secondly, because my family lived in Brunswick, Maine when my husband was in the Navy in the 1980's! Here's my delimma. I was born a Crosby daughter in Houston in 1950. However, my father told me that his father or some other relative of his instigated a "change" from the original surname of "CRAUSBAY" in Texas in the early 1900's or so to facilitate mail delivery. So...it is very peculiar that the Cruasbay spelling , although it can be found among a very few Texans especially, is so rare as to be an outright oddity. This leads me to suspect that the name was in fact originally CROSBY and mis-spelled by a creative census-taker? And then the family adopted that odd spelling as correct....? The few CRAUSBAYS I have contacted have no interest and no knowledge as to any history of the name - country of origin, anything. Middle-aged "kids" of divorced parents and estrangements and so forth. I am so very interested but have almost nothing as long as I persist with the CRAUSBAY spelling. Just wondered if you have stumbled on that surname in connection with the Crosby line? All best to you! pennydollahon@yahoo.com Penny Crosby Dollahon Notify Administrator about this message?
