16 Jan 1817, Rutherford County, N.Car. - Braxton Lankford married Susannah Dalton.

1950 census , Henderson County, N.Car. - Braxton Lankford , age 55, Susan 53, daughter Susan 12.

Both these counties were centers of Dalton families in ca 1800.

Civil War soldiers - Jesse E, Rice, 6th N.Car cavalry regiment. Given his death in 1864, it is likely he died in the war.

Several Jesse Rices in N.Car. by 1860 but none I found match yours'.
