This is what I found - not sure if it will help - is 'Churchman' a nickname. Texas census shows Churchman living with grandsons/stepson etc. with name Knox. Sydney Davis married Mary Knox - but their children would have been Davises. Pretty confusing. Also borders between TN and SC may have changed. Maybe Mary Knox died? and Churchman remarried 'E.E.' - sister/sister in law and the Knoxes are hers? Sorry if I made it worse.
