I am trying to find the missing link between my family - the Townsends who settled Townsend, Delaware and the Townsends of Sussex County, Delaware.

I have detailed information all the way back to a John Townsend who was born around 1747 in Sussex County, Delaware.

I have been trying to find my John Townsend's parents for about 3 years. John Townsend also had a brother named James Townsend who was born abt 1751.

I have been researching the family of William Townsend and Elizabeth Costen of Sussex County, De. This family has two Costen Townsends. The older Costen Townsend was born in 1703 and died in 1776. The younger Costen Townsend was born in 1730 and died before 1789.

These families have online genealogies in rootsweb and ancestry.com. However; there are many inconsistencies concerning the names of the wives of the two Costen Townsends and the details on their children (birth, death, marriage dates and spouse).

I would appreciate hearing about information that you might have on the two Costen Townsend families.

Note Costen is sometimes spelled Costin, Coston, and Causton
because of problems readingthe old documents.
