In the 1840 Maryland Census, Baltimore there is a Samuel Dinsmore between the ages of 40 & 50 years old and his wife is the same age. They have 4 sons and 5 daughters. One son is between the ages of 15 and 20 years old. Your Samuel would have been 18 at that time. This Samuel could be the father of your Samuel Dinsmore. In the 1840 MD census, Baltimore there are 5 Dinsmore families Charlot Dinsmore, David Dinsmore, Mary Dinsmore, Samuel Dinsmore and Thomas Dinsmore.
In the 1850 Maryland Census, Baltimore there is Samuel Dinsmore age 28 born in PA, wife Charlotte age 17 born in PA and son William age 1 born in Maryland. There is a woman named Catherine Miller age 58 living with them who was also born in Maryland. Also in the 1850 Maryland Census in Baltimore is Samuel Dinsmore age 60 born in Ireland, wife Rosanna age 55 born in Ireland, Alex and Martha Harvey, James and John Dinsmore, Samuel Bosley, James Bosley, William Bosley and Samuel Harvey. The adult males are all Machinists just like your Samuel.
In the 1860 PA census Susquehanna Co., Susquehanna Depot there is a Samuel Dinsman age 39 Machinist born in PA, wife Charlotte age 26 born Maryland, Rosanna age 9 born MD (the same name as his Mother??? See the 1850 census information above.), Martha age 7 born MD, George W. age 5 born PA, Samuel age 4 born PA, Charlotte age 2 born PA and William F. age 8/12 born PA. So it seems they moved to PA from MD about 1855 since their 5 year old son was born in PA.
In the 1870 PA census, Susquehanna Co., Susquehanna Twp. there is a Samuel Dinsmor age 49 born PA a locomotive builder, his wife Charlotte age 36 born Virginia, Rosanna age 19 born MD, George age 15 born PA, Samuel age 14 born PA, Lottie age 12 born PA, Margaret age 5 born PA and Alice age 3 born PA.
In the 1880 PA census, Susquehanna Co., Susquehanna Depot there is a Charlotte Dinsmore age 44 born MD parents both born in VA, George W. age 25 born PA father born in VA and mother born in MD, Samuel age 24 born PA and parents born in VA & MD, Lottie age 22 born PA parents born VA & MD, Margaret age 15 born PA parents born VA & MD.
My Robert and Nancy Scott Dinsmore moved from Ireland to America in the 1792 time period. They settled in York County, PA and then moved to Allegheny County, PA. It is possible the two Dinsmore families are related, however, I do not have any proof either way.
