Does anyone know if this is the son of Nicholas Dixon of Putnam Co., Ga? The names certainly fit. Daughter Catherine was actually Barnes instead of Burns. Wife was Mariah Fielder. They were married in Troup Co., Ga in 1831. Sarah was born about 1833, William Bryant in 1835, and Catherine in 1838. Why was Thomas made guardian of his own child, Sarah? At first I thought it might have something to do with the death of his father Nicholas in 1836 but then why was he not made guardian of his son William in that case? I couldn't find any other Dixon's in Chambers Co at the time. In the 1880 census Catherine says her father was born in Ga.

Property to be sold except the negro girl Sarah and she to go to my wife, Mariah M Dixon, and she is to take her at the rate of $200. At wife's death said negro and her increase to be divided equally between three children: Sarah Jane, William Briant and Katherine Burnes Dixon. After property is sold and debts paid the balance of my money to be equally between (sic) my wife and three children except the $200 to be taken from wife's share for the negro. Wife to have one bed and furniture and provision sufficient fot herself and the children for twelve months.
