I am trying to locate the ancestors of James William T. (possibly Toliver) ELLIOTT (b. 1836 Lexington, Fayette County, Kentucky; d. 1914 Anderson County, Kentucky). Depending on the document, he used the name James, William, or simply J. W. T. His death certificate says his father was named William ELLIOTT and that his mother's name was unknown.
I am unable to locate a William ELLIOTT among the ELLIOTTs living in Lexington in 1836. I have ruled out the following ELLIOTT families who were living in Lexington at that time:
Peter ELLIOTT (later moved to Evansville, IN area)
Nancy ELLIOTT
A. S. ELLIOTT
I don't have enough information on the other ELLIOTT families to determine if one of them might be his ancestors:
James ELLIOTT (clerk at Chews, 15 W. Main St)
Jas. ELLIOTT (Wagon maker, W. Main St. opposite Georgetown Road)
Smith ELLIOTT (Wheelright, 22 and 28 N. Upper St)
A. G. W. ELLIOTT
James William T. ELLIOTT is known to have lived with a William and Margaret BYRNS in 1850 and worked for a Robert BURNS in the early 1860s. Robert and John BURNS were also witnesses at his wedding in 1857. After marrying, he lived in the same city block on West High Street (but a different house) as James M. ELLIOTT and A. S. ELLIOTT.
From the obituary of his daughter Rebecca, it appears J. W. T. ELLIOTT or his first wife, Margaret J. HARRISON, may have had Lexington ancestors with the GEORGE, JACKSON, PEYTON/PAYTON, or MICHLER surnames.
His first wife, Margaret J. HARRISON, died in 1862. He remarried to Sara BROWN in 1865 and soon after moved to Anderson County, Kentucky (where his second wife was from), where he lived until his death in 1914.
J. W. T. ELLIOTT's parents never really show up on any records here in Lexington, but are clearly dead or otherwise gone by 1850. I don't know if they died or moved.

I have checked deeds, apprentice bonds, marriage records, wills, newspapers, city directories, military records, census records, and tax lists for Fayette County. I am making this post on the off chance that someone on the list might see a connection with their line.
