Etymology

Anyone know the etymology of Elliott? As in the surname.

I have searched various etymology websites, and they said that Elliott was in fact Irish, aswell as Scottish.

Does anyone have any idea of where the name derives from? Or if from both? Just to clear things up a bit for me so I know where to search more on the surname.
