I am the cousin that Nate Parker mentions in his comments about Faunce Codding and Faunce Taylor. And I went through his messages to you, and I would say he has it correct. Mary Faunce ( b.1734 ) who married George Codding ( 1734 to 1816 ) on Oct. 1, 1757 in Plymouth, Mass, is the daughter of John Faunce and Ruth Sampson, based on Ruth Sampson Faunce Darling will. John Faunce died a month after Mary’s birth.
In your one statement, you say George Codding,Sr, had a third wife, Mary Richmond. I have it that George Codding married Mary Faunce in 1757, then he married Sarah Thayer about 1860. I have not found records to date that show if Mary Faunce had died or was divorced, or the exact date and place where Sarah Thayer was married.
George Codding and Mary Faunce had at least 2 daughters, Ruth and Abigail. George and Sarah Thayer had the following children; Burt, George ( 1761 to 1827 ) , John, Sally, Faunce, and William T Codding.
George Codding ( 1761 to 1827 ) married Mary Richmond ( 1766 to 1836 ). A George Codding deeded land to the State of Connecticut in 1827. Perhaps he still had connections in that state, or that is where Mary Richmond is from.
Many of the family is buried at Vincent Hill Cemetery on Vincent Hill Road in Bristol, New York. I have not researched very much on this family, I was interested in the Faunce connection.
Faunce Taylor is a mystery. He was only listed in an index of witness’ to deeds. And as you have stated he was a witness for Joseph Taylor. Who could certainly be family. That was the only record I have found on Faunce Taylor.
I had seen a " Fally Taylor " that had died about 1813 in a cemetery index. I had talked to Nate Parker earlier today, and he did an online search of some Ontario County records, and found in Bristol Center Cemetery a Joseph Taylor ( 1728 to 1810 ) and Fally Taylor who died in 1813. I am aware of another person whose middle name was Faunce, who went by Fally. Fally Taylor and Faunce Taylor may be the same person. But, I have not verified this.
Faunce Taylor could have simply left the area, headed west with the frontier, or moved elsewhere. I have a Isaac D Faunce that married a Emma A Taylor about 1865 in Maine. A John Faunce may have married a Eugenia Taylor about 1825 in Mass.. I have no parental names on these two Taylor’s.
Has for myself, I descent from Faunces that lived in and around Philadelphia, PA. And, most of those Faunces are descendants of Fauns, Fans, and Fan, all of German ancestry. I also have, by marriages, cousins, etc.., connections to the New England Faunces who are descendants of John Faunce and Patience Morton who are English. So I have an interest in both groups.
