One of my cousins from my paternal grandmother's family line, was recently in an antique shop in New Jersey and bought three 1925 piano music books that had names hand written on the front cover. She remembered my Hendershot connections and though this might be a relative to me. She sent me the one book inscribed Tennie Hendershot, as she'd already given the other two away. On one was written Christine Hendershot and on the other, Christine Westervelt.
After doing some research, I do believe that "Teenie" and Christine Marie Hendershot are the same person as Christine Westervelt (her married name to John Nelson Westervelt). I tracked down quite a bit on her, but am still not sure which Hendershot clan she belongs in. I first found her name spelled with two t's in a World Connect Tree when I did a search for the Westerfelt name. Then I found Christine & John N. Westervelt in the 1930 Bernards, Somerset County, New Jersey census & they'd only been married 5 years and didn't have any children at that point. Next I found them on the Florida Death Index and I do think that the second John N. Westervelt on the Florida Death Index was probably their son. Both Johns died the same year, only 2 months apart...interesting.
So I'd say it's most likely that the 1925 piano music was Christine's while she was still living in New Jersey, before they moved to Florida. Right now I'm not sure which clan Christine belongs in. I'm trying to find her in the 1920 census, but have to check a lot of males, since only the head of household is indexed. If any of this rings bells for anyone, please let me know.
When I received the book in the mail last week, I discovered that Christine had hand written the words to the tune, "She's Everbody's Sweetheart But Nobodys Girl" on pages 20 & 21. I've scanned the front cover and will e-mail it to interested parties. I also plan to scan the two pages where she wrote the words to the song.
