Hi Sarah,
Sorry to disappoint you, but although Hemel Hempstead is only 10 miles up the road from here, the two families of HOWs are completely seperate at least for the last 200 years, though I suspect the Bushey Family (My ancestors) probably came from Hemel Hempstead during the 16th or 17th century.
Whenever I look anything up on LDS or IGI, I see HOWs in Hemel Hempstead and Chesham, and other HOWs in Watford and Bushey, and I have never found any connection between them.
I found records of Isaac and Ruth, and their children:Lilian, Alfred, and Isaac.A. HOW. they lived at Two Waters, in Hemel Hempstead, which is about half a mile from Apsley Paper Mills(about 10 miles from where I was born and live now!) Isaac the elder was actually born in Chipperfield, which is the second village from here, about 5 miles away, and half way from here to Hemel Hempstead. He is described as an "envelope maker", and Ruth as a "factory hand, envelope". John Dickinson had several Paper Mills, including one at Croxley Green, Herts, where I worked for a couple of years in the late 1970s.
The Mills were major employers, and both Two Waters and Croxley grew phenominally when the mills were built. At its peak, there were over 1,000 people working at Croxley Mills, plus ancilliary jobs in the surrounding area.
The paper at Apsley was called "Basildon Bond" and at Croxley it was "Croxley Script". Both of these brands are still in the shops worldwide despite the fact that Croxley mills closed down in 1980. Apsley Mills is still producing paper now.
I hope this is some help to you, and I wish you luck with your quest.
Regards

Phil HOW

p.s. I tried to send a couple of GEDCOM files to your e-mail address, but it did not work. If you contact me direct through my e-mail address(at top of message) maybe I can send them to you. I located an Ezekiel How and his parents, born in Abbots Langley which is near Two Waters.
