I don't have his parents but there is alot of inforamtion known about him. I have a few pages written on him. Would this be the same Dr. Huff married to Obedience Koger?

JAMES AND OBEDIENCE HUFF OF VA AND HARLAN CO, KY

James HUFF (1762/66 VA - 1862 KY) on in VA md Obedience KOGER (1768 VA - 1850 KY) and started their family in the Southwestern corner of VA, probably in Lee Co. He may have lived in the area which was later in Scott Co, VA. By family tradition, James HUFF was a member of the Virginia state legislature before 1797. He was also involved in a fight with Cherokee Indians and wrote the account of it. The History of Scott County, VA, 1932, by Robert W. Abbington, repeats this bit of history and folklore first recorded in The Jacksonian, a newspaper of Abington, VA, in 1846, as a result of an interview with James HUFF in 1840. The fight was with the Cherokee half-breed BENGE in 1794 and took place in the mountain passes between the North Fork of the Holston River and the KY valleys to the West. BENGE had captured some women and children which he was taking across the mountains. There were twelve of the white party, including James HUFF, who was the last survivor. BENGE was killed, but not before he tomahawked one of his women captives. Apparently the other white captives were liberated, but the remainder of the Indians got away.

About 1820 or before, James HUFF took his family to Harlan Co, KY. In 1821, he received a land grant on the Cumberland River Fork. This could have been for his son, but it does give the general time frame of the move from VA to KY. The family did retain ties to their relatives in VA. James HUFF was recorded on the census as a physician. The ch of James and Obedience are not really known, but it seems that most of the HUFF families of Harlan Co either descend from them or are related to them. Other HUFF families did live in Harlan Co from time to time as they moved through the mountain passes into Perry, Leslie, Owsley, or other counties. Ch:

1. Winston (1806 VA - ) in 1827 md Stacey PARKER (1810 NC - ) and had Louisa; Elizabeth; Obedience; William C. L.; Rebecca; Mary A.; Ellen J.; and possibly Robert; Daniel; Nathan; Green A.; Margaret; Amy; and William.

2. Thomas J. (1807 VA - ) md (1) ??? and (2) Catherine MORRIS ( ) and may have had Polly; Allen; Alexander; and Alfred. Polly is certain.

3. Isaac W. (1802 VA - 25 Apr 1879 KY) md (1) Rebecca HUGHES and (2) Elizabeth LEWIS (Apr 1820 VA - after 1910 KY) and had Ira; Martin; William; and possibly Winston with Rebecca and John Wesley; Hiramk; Rebecca; James Milton; and possibly Ann with Elizabeth. John Wesley may have been a child of Rebecca.

4. James, Jr. (1793 VA - 10 Feb 1879 Wayne Co, WV) was a soldier in the War of 1812 from Lee Co, VA. In Aug 1816 in Harlan Co, KY, he md (1) Ann PENNINGTON (or PENDLETON) (1793 VA - 19 July 1864 Wayne Co, WV). James was a resident of Harlan Co, KY, in 1830 and 1840, but he was not identified in 1850. In 1860, there were two apparant gr-ch with the couple as Cordelia (1855 VA) and Jane (1857 VA). After Ann died, James md (2) in Wayne Co, WV, Mahala WELLS ( - 13 Jan 1927). Mahala HUFF received WC 30373 from 11 Feb 1879 until her death. She was the oldest surviving pensioner of the War of 1812. James HUFF had received pension SC 19694. He and his first wife seemed to have a large family, but the names of his ch are lost. They may include Henderson HUFF and Tolbert HUFF of Wayne Co, WV.

Huff lineage is James and Obedience (Koger) of VA and KY; probably Huff family of Southwestern VA frontier;
