I am researching the Humphries family of which my grandfather was a member. No variations to the spelling. Most were born at Ardley or Fritwell, two very close communities in Oxfordshire, England. Many of the males moved to South Yorkshire to work in coal mines at Mexborough and possibly other mines.
Grandfather, Joseph, and his sister Jane emigrated to Australia in 1888 and as far as I know were the only ones to leave England. So Joseph was born in Ardley on March 27th, 1872. His father was Robert who married Elizabeth Butler and Robert's father was John who married Mary (unknown).
If there is anyone who is also interested in this family, I would be pleased to make contact.
