He could have been Roman Catholic or Byzantine Catholic - Greek Catholic as we call it in "old country" (Slovakia).
What was your grandmother's maiden name? Was she from "old country" ? You need to dig a little bit more. I would think someplace in the UK records should be his place of birth.
