Prónay is not only Hungarian, it is a prominent noble name (barons). The family originated in Turóc county (now northern Slovakia) and has been traced back to the 1200s. While there are not a large number of people with this name today, they do show up in both the Hungarian and Slovak phone directories. There are a few people researching this family--in Hungary, Canada, and Australia. You can find messages from them at www.radixindex.com. Some, however, are in Hungarian. I assume that Rose's maiden name was Schön, married name Weiss. Those family names, along with Sarah/Sadie suggest the possibility that this family was Jewish. If that is the case, Prónay was probably not the original name of Sadie's family. It was not uncommon for people to adopt Hungarian family names whose original names were German, Jewish, Slovak, etc., especially in the latter half of the 19th century. Nor was it uncommon for them to adopt a noble name. This, of course, would make it extremely difficult to trace the family. Finally, you do not know if Prónay was her maiden name or her married one. Unfortunately, I do not find Sarah/Sadie in either the immigration or the census records, either married to a Prónay or not. Pretty tough going. Janet Notify Administrator about this message?
