My father’s family emigrated from Hungary to the United States. They were from the Lippa area of Temes Magye (now Lipova, Romania). I can get back to the mid-to-late 1800’s, but before I can usefully avail myself of what the LDS has to offer, I probably need to go back one or two more generations. If anyone can help, given what I’ve found to date, I would be very grateful. Here’s what I know so far: My father’s parents were Ferencz/Franz/Frank Louis Schiller and Eva M. Zabresky (Zabreczky/Zabreszki), who were married abt Oct 1919 in Chicago. Both were born in Lippa, and immigrated to the USA as children. Frank was born on 25 Feb 1898, travelled to the US Feb-Mar 1910 and died in Orange, California on 15 Feb 1968. Eva was born on 18 Dec 1900, and journeyed to the US in Dec 1912. She died in Orange, California on 7 Aug 1971. Frank’s parents were Gyorgy/Georg/George Schiller and Pauline Dobrikose(?). George Schiller was born abt 1837 in Ujfalu, Hungary. He came to the USA in Dec 1911 and died in Chicago on 2 Feb 1923. I know nothing of his parents. Pauline was born abt 1857, believed in Bohemia. She journeyed to the US in Oct 1905. She died 17 May 1920 in Chicago. I know nothing of her parents. They had another son, Josef/Joseph L. Schiller, b. abt 1887, who came to the USA Apr–May 1908. He married Roseanna Maloney, and they had 2 children, Margaret M. (1919-2000) and Joseph L. (1921-1986). Josef died in Chicago on 29 Nov 1946. Eva was the only child of Anton Zebresky and Elizabeth Stengel, who married abt 1900. Anton was born 7 May 1873 and Elizabeth abt 1881, both in Hungary. They traveled together to the US in Apr 1910. Elizabeth died on 24 Sep 1941 and Anton died in the late 1950s, both in Chicago. I know nothing concrete about his parents, except that in the “Industry and Trade Directory of Hungary 1891” there is a listing for Vincze Zabreczky, a joiner in Lippa. Joiner was the family trade; Anton was one. Not knowing how many Zabreczkys there were in Lippa, there is a possibility this is Anton’s brother, father or uncle. Anton had at least one brother named Emil, born abt 1876, and possibly another brother, Mathias. In my tracing of Emil’s family, I found a ship’s manifest for two people whom I believe were his wife and son, Mariska and Imre (Mary and Emery once anglicized). They listed their birthplace as Szépfalu, Hungary. Emery eventually settled in the Morgan County, Tennessee area. Elizabeth Stengel’s parents were Karl Stengel and Elizabetha Sauer, who married abt 1878. Karl, I believe, lived his entire life in Hungary, and probably died in the early 1920s. Elizabetha was born abt 1859, and came to the US in Apr 1925. She died in Chicago on 14 Feb 1934. I know nothing of Karl’s parents, and for Elizabetha, I have only their names: John (probably Johann) & Elizabeth Sauer. Karl and Elizabetha’s oldest daughter and Elizabeth’s older sister, Anna (born abt 1879), married Georg Messner (Meszner - born abt 1871) abt 1896. They had one daughter, Anna M., born 19 Jun 1905 in Hungary. The family traveled to the USA in Sep 1910. Anna (the elder) died 12 May 1931 in Chicago, and Georg died 22 Apr 1942 in Chicago. Anna M. Messner never married and died childless in Mar 1969, so that line died with her. If you’ve made it this far, thanks for looking, and happy hunting! Notify Administrator about this message?
