Interesting about the connection with John Sevier. The Revol. War pension record of James Williams lists the marriage of James' son, John U. Williams to Mary Goad, 8 Feb 1817. This marriage is also cited with the same date in Casey Cnty, KY in the database at ancestry.com, Kentucky Marriages to 1850. John U. Williams has two land patents in Crawford that identify his middle name as Uptegrove. This is consistent with the pension record which refers to a statement by James' dau, Rachel H. Peckenpaugh identifying her mother's maiden name as Updegrove. I have wondered whether Mary Goad Williams could be Gabriel Goad's dau who is enumerated 1810 in Casey, KY as b/t 10 & 15. This is consistent with Mary's age as shown in the 1850/1860 census. James Williams is in Casey Cnty, KY in 1810 then in Perry, IN in 1820, Crawford in 1830 and dies in Vermillion Cnty in 1837. His older children state their places of birth as NC, whereas the the younger ones list KY. James Williams pension record also lists a dau. Salley F. b. 18 Aug 1786. The database of KY marriages referenced above lists: Good, Gabriel Williams, Sally 14 Jun 1803 Kentucky Lincoln County Since Casey Cnty was formed from Lincoln after the above date, I have wondered whether this marriage could be the "Sarah" noted in the 1850 census for Crawford Cnty. While the age she gives in the 1810 census would argue against it, the age noted in 1850 is consistent with that of the pension record. Also, by 1810 two of the children noted in the pension record are absent from James Williams' household. My interest is in Alfred Williams who is noted in the pension record as a grandchild of James Williams. He was b. 17 Oct 1813 in Frankfort, Franklin, KY. He was a resident of Crawford Cnty through 1850 and then moves first to Putnam and then Linn, County Missouri. Any help in establishing his parents is much appreciated.
