This is for those folks who can trace their Indiana HIGH ancestry back to New York and possibly back to a James High who was in Lockport, NY in 1840 and whose descendants may have settled in Allen County, IN or other loctaions in Indiana...

According to the 1840 NY census information, this Charles High was in the age group 20 to 30, in his household was 1 female in the same age group and 1 male child in the under 5 years of age group...The US Army Enlistment Records for 1778 to 1914, lists a Charles H. High as enlisting June 4th, 1842 in Lockport, NY at age 24 for a period of 5 years. His description is stated as; Blue Eyes, Brown hair, ruddy complexion, and 5 ft. 0 in. tall. His unit was the 4th Artillery Company, Btry K. ... Also, ccording to the same document, he deserted as of Aug 3, 1843, with no apprehention date listed. I firmly beleive this my Charles High who ended up in Indiana around 1844-1845. It's possible his son may have died in his youth. I also believe his wife may have had a second son (John H. High) in Oct 1845 and she then may have died also. See my other postings with regards to John and Charles second wife Malinda. I still have no idea what Happened to my Chalres High after about 1855. I beleive his father to have been the James High listed in the same 1840 census and also living in Lockport. So again, I ask that you look and see if have any connection to this Charles or James who were both in Lockport NY in 1840.
