I think Thomas Davis (b. c1760? Orange Co., VA?) probably died in the mid to late 1830's in Morgan Co. A Thomas Davis made land purchases in the early 1830's in the area that was taken into Hendricks Co. in 1868 (A 2x10 mile strip that is now in Franklin & Liberty Townships.)
Son-in-law Samuel C. Mitchell settled about the same time 1 mile northeast of Hazelwood in Liberty Township, Hendricks Co.
Son Evan Davis settled a few years earlier west/southwest of Belleville, also in Liberty Township.
I only recently found out that the land Thomas bought was originally in Morgan Co. A researcher found no will or probate record for Thomas in Hendricks Co. so I'm wondering if something was filed in Morgan Co. and hope for some advice as to how I might go about requesting such a record. (Family oral history is that a grandson made the trip from Missouri to Indiana to retrieve an inheritance from Thomas for himself and two siblings, probably sometime around 1840.)
Would the library have those kinds of early records or the county clerks office?
Any suggestions (or addresses, researcher names, etc.) greatly appreciated and welcomed.
