In the 1850 Census for Spencer Co., Huff Twp., family #1246, there's the family of Nancy Carter, 66, b. PA; Delilah, 38, b. KY; Edward, 36, farmer, b. KY; Elizabeth, 35, b. KY; Joseph, 29, farmer, real estate $200, b. IN; Nancy, 28, b. IN; Emily J., 26, b. IN; Saml., 23, real estate $150, b. IN; Susan, 21, b. IN; Hardin M. Porter, 11, b. IN; Sarah A. Carter, 9, b. IN.
I believe this Nancy Carter was the wife of Morris Carter (full name Morris Veale Carter), nee Nancy Brown, both were married in Nelson Co., KY, in 1813. Morris appears in the 1820 and 1830 census, but not in 1840. Morris was the son of Edward Carter, d. Nelson Co. in 1812, and Margaret Mason, both of Loudon Co., VA. Morris' brother Mason Edward Carter, lived and died in Perry Co., IN.
Living with Nancy Carter in 1850 is Edward Carter, b. ca. 1814, prob. in Nelson Co. I believe the Elizabeth mentioned next in the 1850 census was his wife, maiden name unknown. The Samuel Carter in 1850 appears married and separately in the 1860 census. In 1860 also, there's a William Carter:family #623: William Carter, 47, farmer, real estate $1,200, personal estate $400, b. KY;
Delila, 45, b. IN; Florinda?, 17, b. IN; Mary E., 14, b. IN; Benoni, 12, b. IN; Morgan, 9, b. IN; Orlene E., 6, b. IN. This William may be a brother to Edward.
Also in 1850, Edward appears to have sisters Nancy, Emily and Susan. Nancy is with him in the 1860 and 1870 census, but I'd like to know if the others married. The Delilah in the 1850 census may be the same as the Delila, wife of Willia Carter in 1860.
I'd like help with this family. There's a lot on Mason Edward Carter of Perry Co. on the internet, but this family hasn't been included.
