Addendum to Hess query;
David McBride married Nancy Jane Hamilton in 1844. Some of the children they had together, according to an 1860 US census are: Andrew, Lavisa, Sarah, Thomas D, John C, and Mary. Flora Belle was reportedly their youngest being born around 1870.

I am surmising McBride is a surname of a relative or perhaps his mother's maiden name that was passed along to David Hess as a middle name.

On a Rootweb site for Ripley County I found the following Hess names listed on a page about marriage licenses issued in that county:

HESS, John Nancy Ayres 14June1849
HESS, Mary Thomas Grimes 01Jan1843
HESS, Matthias Phebe Brunner 20June1847

Unfortunately, it doesn't share parent's names to help me leapfrog from there in my research.
