I went back to the same database. Birth, Marriage and Death registration was civil after 1864. Therefore, rcds after this date are generally comprehensive. The IFHF has 4 death rcds for John McClean between 1892 and 1896. One was a civil registration in 1892. The other 3 were church burials.
Alternatively, you can contact the General Register Office at http://www.groireland.ie. This is the focal point for info on BMD rcds. However, it wants specific data. The GRO does charge fees for its work.
