I searched the Irish Family History Foundation's database. It contains 11,500,000 surviving rcds for abt 60% of Irish counties. Rcds B4 1840 are sparse.

For John Turley B 1848/49 in Newry RC, I found 5 B rcds, mostly for surname variants. One of these MAY be your ancestor. Rcds keeping by this era was generally good.
