I searched the Irish Family History Foundation's database. This database currently doesn't include Derry and Donegal. Therefore, I can't be as certain of the results as I would like. Rcds B4 1840 are iffy in any case. Many BMD events were never rcd'd; others were lost over time.

For James Reilly (exact) B 1829 +/- 4 years in Antrim, Armagh, Down, Tyrone, Fermanagh and Louth, I get 5 hits. 4 are in Louth, the other in Antrim. Using name variants and the above factors, I get nearly 7,000 hits.

For the surname Shelady (exact), I get 0 B hits in ALL counties for ALL years. When I change to a variant (Shellady), I get 5 B hits. These are all in Co. Antrim, but are late 19th cent. The same regionality is seen when I search for marriage dates. The forename Rachel is rare in Ireland. This is an advantage as it reduces the number of false positives.

My advice is to search tombstones, obits, and census rcds in Canada to learn more abt James' parents. Their names, birth and marriage dates would REALLY help you.

You can also try your luck with the 5 rcds I identified for James Reilly. However, I put your chances of success at less than 30%.

Best of luck to you.
